Welcome

A bit about how I tend to run any of my classes you may be in. I'm not a harsh grader or teacher, as stated by some of my former students, but I do ask you respect me as well as each other while in my classroom. You will always know due dates well in advance, and any assignments and projects can be found both in the classroom, and on this website under the "Students" tab. Never be afraid to come and chat with me about how I can support you learning and being successful in my class! I hope you all have a wonderful school year.

Students: FAQ

Late policy

I do accept late work through the semesters, however when grades are due, your assignments are also due. Assignments from previous semesters won't be taken because they can't be entered into the gradebook anymore. I understand many times you guys have lots of things going on both in and outside of the clasroom. Talk to me if you have things going on that may make assignments difficult for you.

Extra credit?

Extra credit will be given through the year, however it is never guaranteed. I want you to succeed, but make sure you are also aiming for success. If you have late work I expect it to be done if you are also doing extra credit. I love to see students going the extra mile, so if you talk to me about an extra project, I am all ears!

What about technology?

Phones are wonderful resources in the classroom. However, I do want your attention to be on making you smarter. That means if we're taking notes I'd like your phone to be away. But I know that technology is essential in our lives. Many projects will require research, so if you need access to tech, let me know and I will work it out!

Absent?

If you miss some work the majority of work will be uploaded here and on Google Classroom. I also may videotape or voice record some discussions that are important for units. This means that you will have access to the work being done in school even if you aren't there. To make up work you can get full credit up to the amount of days missed (missed 2 days=if you turn it in within 2 days you get full credit.) After that the late policy will be applied. Let me know if things are going on to where it may be extremely difficult to complete an assignment.

Do we have group work or presentations?

Depending on the class dynamics, the assignments and the nature of the class there may be group work or presentations. If you have issues with presenting please feel free to talk to me and we can figure something out. I understand group work can be frustrating sometimes, however I also see the value in it. Most group projects can also be done individually if you put the work into it. Talk to me if you'd like to pursue options like this.

Can I sit next to my friends?

This depends on your class, and how you work. I do change the seating occasionally through the year, and aim to have flexible seating. However, I need you to show that you can handle things like that. I like to try new things, however I will read class dynamics and take it into consideration when placing seating if I need a seating chart.

Rick Riordan

The Greek and Roman gods are alive in modern times. The Percy Jackson series follows Percy, the son of Posieden and his adventures, and the sequel series the Heroes of Olympus follows many more adventures through dangerous perils. These books changed my life, so I recommend them.
